Ryan Henigman - Director of Bands

A native of Stillwater, Oklahoma, Ryan Henigman graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Music Education from Oklahoma State University in 2008. After graduating, he became the Assistant Band Director for Pryor Public Schools in Pryor, Oklahoma. In his five year tenure at Pryor, his bands received numerous superior ratings and Outstanding Achievement Awards. Other duties included teaching beginners, junior high bands, jazz bands, and designing drill for the Pryor Marching Band. In 2013, Mr. Henigman started his Masters Degree in Conducting at the University of Missouri where he studied under Dr. Brian Silvey and Dr. Brad Snow. After completing partial studies, he moved to Stillwater, Oklahoma and served as  the Stillwater High School Assistant Band Director. Mr. Henigman completed his graduate studies in 2017 to earn his Masters Degree in Conducting from the University of Central Oklahoma where he studied with Dr. Brian Lamb.

Mr. Henigman currently teaches the Pride of the Pack Marching Band, the Shawnee High School Wind Ensemble, the Shawnee High Schoo Jazz Band and assists at the middle school levels. Mr. Henigman also oversees the entire 6th through 12th grade vertical band program. Professional memberships include the National Association for Music Education (NAfME), Oklahoma Music Educators Association (OMEA), North American Saxophone Alliance (NASA), Kappa Kappa Psi (KKP), and Phi Beta Mu . Mr. Henigman resides in Shawnee, Oklahoma with his wife Jade, their son Jude, daughter Aurora, and their five fuzzy animals. His favorite hobbies are playing video games, collecting comic books, playing music, and spending time with his family.

Joe Galvin - Assistant Director of Bands

Joe Galvin is a graduate of the University of South Florida where he studied trumpet with professor Dr. Jay Coble.  While at USF, Joe performed with the top university ensembles such as the Wind Ensemble and the Symphony Orchestra.  As a student, Joe graduated Summa Cum Laude and was a recipient of the Virginia Bridges Music Education Award.  Prior to serving as assistant band director at Shawnee, Joe spent three years as the band director at Hudson Middle school in Hudson, Florida.  Joe also currently serves as the brass caption head of Heat Wave Drum and Bugle Corps.

Jan Steffen - Assistant Band Director

Jan Steffen has served as assistant band director at Shawnee High School and Shawnee Middle School since 2002. Ms. Steffen was director of bands in the Pond Creek-Hunter school system for 4 years immediately after graduating from Phillips University with a bachelor's degree in music education. After teaching private flute lessons for 18 years while raising three children, Ms. Steffen returned to band directing as an assistant director in the Cushing band program for the four years prior to coming to Shawnee.  She is a member of NAfME, OMEA and ECOBDA.

Hunter Stutzman - Assistant Band Director

Hunter Stutzman serves as the Percussion Director for Shawnee Public Schools. He is a recent graduate of the University of Oklahoma, with a Bachelor's Degree in Instrumental Music Education. While at OU, Mr. Stutzman participated in the Symphony Band, the Wind Symphony, the Percussion Ensemble and Percussion Orchestra, the New Horizons Band, The Pride of Oklahoma, the Steel Band, and the Jazz Band. While at OU, he also placed in a 2017 Music Club Competition and was selected as one of the Undergraduate winners of the 2018 OU Concerto Competition. In addition to his responsibilities with Shawnee Public Schools, he also works locally with the Pleasant Grove Dependent School district, serving as the school's band director. He is an active member of OKMEA and PAS.
