Honor Bands / Solo & Ensemble Contest

Shawnee High School band members have three honor band opportunities to take advantage of:

ECOBDA All District Honor Band is a district of 32 bands that meet centrally in Ada, OK. Auditions are held at Ada Jr. High on Saturday, November 3rd and a two day clinic/concert held Friday, January 5th & Saturday, January 6th at East Central University. Students in 9th grade will audition to make the Jr. High Band while students 10-12 will audition to make the High School Band. Cost for ECOBDA auditions is $10.

OBU Honor Band is open to any bands in the area and meet at OBU in Shawnee, OK. Auditions are held on Monday, November 5th in the evening. A two day clinic/concert will be held Monday, January 7 & Tuesday, January 8. Cost for OBU auditions is $12.

OkMEA All State band is the official State honor band. All State auditions are open to students grades 10-12. First round auditions are the same auditions for ECOBDA. Those who pass to the 2nd round will learn another set of audition music and audition at Westmoore High School on Saturday, December 1st. Some instruments will have another 3rd round (final round) that evening. Cost for OkMEA auditions is $15.

OSSAA Solo & Ensemble contest is hosted by Shawnee Middle School on Saturday February 23rd. 

Solos-The cost of all instrumental and vocal solos will be $10.00 per solo for all district contests. If a soloist makes a superior rating at the district level, they qualify to enter the State level solo contest. Solos at all Regional and State level contests will be $12.00 per solo. 

Ensembles- All ensembles are divided into 3 sizes: small, medium and large. The number of members allowed in each size ensemble differs, as does the price of each ensemble. 
Small instrumental ensembles (2-6 members) will pay $18.00 at district and $20.00 at Regional and State. Medium instrumental ensembles (7-12 members) will pay $36.00 at district and $38.00 at Regional and State. Large instrumental ensembles (13-18 members)will be charged $54.00 at district and $56.00 at Regional and State.
